Founded in 1962 by Dr. and Mrs. Jim Higgs, the Staunton Choral Society (SCS) has been a cornerstone of the region’s musical community for over six decades. Originally formed to bring choral music to a wider audience, the group quickly grew in size and reputation, becoming a beloved local tradition. SCS remains a welcoming, non-auditioned community choir dedicated to sharing the joy of music throughout the Staunton area. Open to all voice parts—soprano, alto, tenor, and bass—SCS upholds its founders’ vision of preserving and celebrating beautiful choral music.
Throughout its history, SCS has performed in a variety of venues, from churches and concert halls to community gatherings and special events, adapting to the evolving musical landscape while staying true to its mission. Each year, we present free spring and winter concerts featuring a diverse repertoire, including classical, folk, contemporary, and sacred music. Thanks to the dedication of our members and unwavering community support, we continue to bring the power of music to all, fostering a deep appreciation for choral artistry in Staunton and beyond.
